The satellite was to have arrived today, but recent tragic events in London apparently have had wide-ranging repercussions, so instead, the bird will be arriving tomorrow. Regardless, today was a work day.

I have begun to systematically look up words that I struggle to express when speaking French, uniformly after the fact and after I have tried somehow to get the point across. I am frankly amazing myself with having come up with words that, if not strictly correct, are certainly good enough "for government work" (as we used to say in the Marines). The need to speak French has not been official yet; I've simply been helping people with understanding the way things are around here. (I mean, it is my fourth campaign!)

One place in I expect to see a lot more of this campaign than in previous campaigns is the workout room.

Workout Room at the Fili

This is a photo taken from the corner where the treadmills are located in the workout room. There is a second bench press to the left of the photo and a rack of barbells to the right. There are also a rowing machine and a cycling machine out in the hallway that leads to the sauna. (Although Mondays and Fridays are the announced days for the sauna to be turned on, I don't recall seeing any heat-lovers last night when I was in the workout room trying to figure out a way to reproduce a chest-and-arm workout. And I'm not going to hold my breath, either.) I managed to burn 300 calories this morning on the treadmill; it took 36:36 for me to accomplish that.

Now the trick is going to be to stay motivated enough to keep doing that, day after day. I've found that the first time doing any kind of repetitive exercise, I can keep going if only for the sake of finding out something as silly as "how long do I have to walk to burn 300 calories?" After a couple of days of that, I start to get bored, and that leads to cessation of the exercise session.

Several people have made comments about my weight loss, which is not only pleasant to hear, but also something of an incentive to not overeat and to continue to exercise.

The flight yesterday was quite pleasant, and being a mere three hours long, it was very tolerable. I took this photo a few minutes after departure from Moscow.

Outbound From Moscow

As on previous flights, the service was excellent and ample. (I believe they had a choice of something like three or four entrees after the course of appetizers. I had the seafood with rice.)

I'm going to try to get some more exercise in tonight before going to sleep. I'm slated to go in to work early tomorrow morning.

Cheers...
