Return to flight!
Jul. 13th, 2005 06:20 amI haven't checked the status of the situation in Florida (net access is glacially, painfully slow right now), but if all is going well, the U.S. is set to yet again send Shuttles into space starting... well... tonight Baikonur time. I suspect the big-screen, plasma TV in the common room will be showing whatever telecast we can catch of the launch.
In other news, it's been pretty quiet today. One of the long poles in the tent for getting this campaign off the ground got significantly shorter today, which is good news, though there are many more trips "twixt cup and lip," as it were, scheduled for this campaign.
I've been doing fairly well with exercise lately, burning nearly 500 calories on the treadmill two days ago, 400 yesterday, and nearly 400 more today. (This morning, my weight stood at 100 kg on the scale in the weight room, which sounds ever so much more pleasant to the ear than "220 pounds," dontcha think?) I have no idea how accurate the calculated "calories burned" figure is that's displayed on the treadmill - I suspect its accuracy will vary with the individual - but I'm getting a good workout, if perspiration is any indicator.
The weather has cooled down to being just dad-gummed pleasant (at least it was at noon), a situation I was told can change with the snap of the fingers. (It would appear that the principle of "if you don't like the weather, just wait 15 minutes" applies in numerous places, including Pagosa Springs and Baikonur.)
Tomorrow is Bastille Day, and a celebratory evening is being planned over at the Proton Club (and everyone is invited). As the unofficial tamada of our little group of dragomans, Vladimir V. has already snagged the spot as toastmaster/interpreter-in-chief for the event.
It's still nice out. I think I'll take advantage of the situation and get in some more exercise.
Cheers...
