Long one...
Nov. 17th, 2005 10:26 pmToday was probably the toughest day yet of the assignment.
Some additional folks showed up from the end client and they splintered the group into two, dividing the interpreters among the splinters. I spent most of the day interpreting requirements-speak, which exhausted me. Then everyone got together for the Big Dinner Out™, where I ended up translating and interpreting at a (New) Mexican restaurant called El Pinto for close to another couple of hours.
The hotel's management left a note in my room, to the effect that a group was arriving tomorrow, and that I was being moved to another room owing to the fact that the group is being put up together in our wing of the hotel. As recompense, they offer a free breakfast or dinner in the dining room, which is not much of an incentive, although I may stop by tomorrow evening to see how much damage I can inflict.
I've stayed at hotels from time to time for most of my working life, and this is the first time I've been asked to vacate my room like this. What makes it particularly frustrating is that I'm being asked to pack and move the day before my last night in the hotel (pack tonight, pick up keys to a new room tomorrow, and leave Saturday).
I can't wait to get home.
Cheers...
