Humpday...
Nov. 16th, 2005 10:50 pmNormally, I despise the implications of the word "Humpday," as if the focus of one's life is properly and entirely embedded in the weekend. However, this has turned out to be a particularly stressful week, and now it's just over halfway finished.
The assignment is one of the toughest I've worked on in a while. There is a lot of highly technical discussion going on, alternating between segments I can interpret without breaking a sweat (although my vocal cords hate me for it) and other segments that give me fits.
These people like to talk, and occasionally, I find myself in the middle of a misunderstanding, at which point I have to gently interject myself and step outside of my role as interpreter and try to free the works, so to speak, and sometimes, that's not possible. Too, there is a risk run every time I do so, specifically: if I'm wrong - and I'm not excluding that possibility - my credibility suffers, at best, and at worst, I am seen as a retarding force to the forward progress of the meeting.
Galina and I got up early this morning and got on the road at a little after 6 am. Just before getting in the car, Galina opened the door to get something out of our car and went around to the passenger side of my rental, leaving the door open. I came up to the driver side of the rental, pressed the lock on the passenger side of our car and slammed the door, not realizing that Galina had put the keys on the passenger side seat. Hopefully, Drew will be able to find the extra key I think I have at the house in Pagosa and will express it down to me in time for my departure, else I shall have to call a locksmith (or try something like a thin metal shim, which I would have to obtain from somewhere, to try to pop the lock on the door). I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I am well and truly tired. It's time to hit the hay.
Cheers...
