Galina returned from a local Ford dealership with a loaner while our transmission is being worked on. She then induced me to go with her to visit an old real estate crony of hers, who happens to now sell condos not far from here.

We got to tour the models while Galina and Gisela caught up, which tried my patience (the tour, not the socializing), and afterward, the two of us noodled around Clear Lake for a while while the weather was deciding just how much moisture would be liberated from the heavens. Once it stopped sprinkling and started to well and truly rain, we headed over to Natalie's place, both to go out for dinner and to return her key.

Dinner was at the Cafe Japon, which serves baroque music along with your meal. My love of spider rolls permitted me to delude myself that something with fried soft-shelled crab called a "Dark Angel" roll would just hit the spot, and while it wasn't bad, it missed the mark.

By the time we headed back to Natalie's after the meal, there was a full-scale gully-washer in progress outside. I waited out in the car outside of Natalie's place while Galina ran inside and I noticed the rain was overrunning the gutters on the roofs of the buildings, allowing the water to flow off the buildings in sheets. The heavy rain continued all the way home to Clear Lake.

I went to visit the client today and though I didn't get any work, I did manage to take the annual IT awareness training mandated by JSC and visit with my former boss. Galina's been over at Natalie's for most of the day, and ought to be back in a couple of hours.

The rain has been replaced by wind, which is howling pretty loudly just now outside the hotel window. I have some work coming in soon, and I'm trying to download a 130-MB file using the hotel's wireless connection, which wavers in intensity the way tall swamp grass wavers in a gusty breeze. Nothing to do there but wait.

Cheers...

I think of all the people about whose lives I've read, I've probably read the most about Benjamin Franklin. His name keeps popping up in front of my eyes from time to time like a welcome sight for sore eyes, and the more I learn about the man, the better feel I think I get for his genius, his humanity, and, indeed, his foibles.

If it were possible to share a dinner with one historical person, Ben Franklin would be my choice.

Cheers...

P.S. The subject refers to the fact that Franklin was born on January 6, 1706, before adoption of the Gregorian reform by Britain and the American colonies, which added 11 days to the calendar in 1752 and moved Franklin's birthday to the 17th.
