Drew called this morning. It turns out Huntür is still a bit under the weather, and Shannon - who has been missing a lot of work lately - simply has to open her store today, which would leave Galina and me to open our store. Figuring the kid would be asleep and I could work, I volunteered to come by and look after Huntür which would enable me to work and everyone else to fulfill their roles in life on this snowy Saturday.

The snow, by the way, continues unabated, which is pretty good news if you're the local ecosystem. The 4 inches that fell at our elevation was matched by about 2 new feet of the white stuff up on the mountain.

In any event, I drove to the kids' place and took charge of Huntür, who proceeded to take charge of me.

What did we do?

We made butterscotch pudding. We played a "My Little Pony" memory game. We built a tent in the living room. We ate the butterscotch pudding. We read a beginning French book (Le français par la méthode directe, ca. 1941). During the time I managed to get any work done, Huntür was surfing a PBS kids' site.

In short, she ran me ragged.

Drew came back from the store with some tacos and a 6-pack of Pacífico, and as I munched on a taco and washed it down with a cold cerveza, Huntür was sitting on cross-legged on the floor next to Brady, who was online playing one of those networked shoot-em-ups, and doing a passable imitation of a whole cheering section. From time to time (and between bites of a ham-and-cheese sandwich), she'd applaud wildly, as when Brady blew up a tank, or she'd shout things like "Better watch out, or that guy'll own you!" when Brady was in trouble.

What a character!

My! It's after 5 pm already! How time does fly!

Cheers...
