Getting close to midway...
Apr. 21st, 2006 10:37 pmIt turns out the past couple of days have been warm-up days, to allow all of the participants in the meeting to get acquainted with the tools of the trade, so to speak. Today, it was time to put the familiarization to the test, and apparently the end client had Murphy on the payroll today, because not all goals were accomplished. Fortunately, there will be additional opportunities to work with the tools.
There is still no official word on what everyone is going to do on Sunday, which is our off day. Rumor has it the delegation will visit White Sands, which is a place I've never been to.
No word from the client who sent the review materials a few days ago. My response, basically, was forwarded to the end client, so everyone is waiting for a shoe - any shoe - to drop. In other news, clients are calling with assignments, most of which I have to turn down because my time is limited. It is further limited by our group's plan to have a gathering tomorrow night that involves leg of lamb. I'm looking forward to that, I must admit.
I've not seen much of El Paso since arriving. Yesterday, I got to the post office during lunchtime by asking one of the other linguists if they'd give me a ride there, after which I'd buy lunch. We went to a place called the Panda Garden, the staff of which appeared to be completely Mexican, and whose decor - here, I'm talking about the walls, menus, and business cards - exhibited exactly three Chinese ideograms, located on wooden plaques hung on the wall. The food was, um, Chinese in style and service (chopsticks were available), but not memorable in any way.
Another early departure tomorrow, so I better get cracking and get to sleep.
Cheers...
