Apr. 25th, 2006 10:03 pmIt's not as if I've been running a sleep deficit the past couple of days; it's that I've been pushing myself (and been pushed by circumstances) pretty steadily, limiting myself to 5 hours of sleep a night.
Last night, I decided to go to bed at 8:30 pm, so that when I got up at 5 am, I'd have a respectable amount of sleep under my belt, but it was not to be. The hotel features what it calls "heavy hors d'oeuvres" every weeknight (except Friday) starting at 5:30 pm. The good news, for those so inclined, is that they also offer drinks in this hotel chow line; the bad news, for those prone to maintaining good health, is that the food,... well... sucks.
Last night, they served some kind of taco concoction with mystery meat. To make a short story even shorter, I woke up three times last night and spent considerable time contemplating the wisdom of putting "food" like that in my mouth (this, without taking the requisite precaution of downing a drink or two, as was suggested by one of "my" Russians today).
So, I stumbled through the day, and upon returning today went immediately to sleep for two fretful hours. I then rose and translated Three More Pages™ and am now poised to post this entry and go back to sleep until 5 am.
My carefully worked out schedule of six pages a day (three in the morning and three in the evening) is going to get a jolt tomorrow night, as the group is apparently planning a night out in a restaurant. I'm not at all sure attendance is optional, but we'll see.
Cheers...
