Job's done!
Apr. 29th, 2006 08:30 pmToday was the last day of the job, involving a little shopping and a visit to the town of Mesilla, in New Mexico. We got there in time to see a "drive-in" of the British Motor Car Club of Southern New Mexico, causing a flurry of photography. I personally took a liking to a nice-looking Jaguar.
Upon arrival, there was one hour of free time and then two guided tours, back to back, for the members of the delegation (and the interpreters, natch). The guide was a local woman of Spanish, Mexican, and local Native American extraction, wearing clothes that were typical of women soldiers in Pancho Villa's army (sans the machete, the decapitating use of which was used to signal the start of battle). Everyone seemed to enjoy the tour.
Translation work is starting to pile up. I have downloaded two small assignments, and a third is in negotiation.
I am feeling chipper, all the remaining interpreters (the "rear guard," as I called our little group, as more than half of the team left for home this morning) seem to be zonked, having canceled plans to eat out at a nearby seafood place.
I need to pack, and then get a good night's sleep. The plane leaves tomorrow at 1, and I should be back in Durango at around 5 pm.
Cheers...
