Getting back into the swing...
May. 1st, 2006 08:07 pmUsually, my sleep is fairly undisturbed, and the covers aren't agitated much. When I got up this morning, however, it looked as if I had gone two falls out of three with my blanket, and very likely lost.
The radiogram was disposed of with ease, despite being asked - before really generating a head of steam, workwise - to stop what I was doing and to drop by the store to say hello to Huntür and Misha, a Rotweiler/Blue Heeler mix puppy who is the latest addition to the kids' household. The dog is insufferably cute, and still has that "puppy smell" that I remember from oh, so long ago, during a memorable summer at camp where, halfway into the summer, I picked a puppy to take back with me at the end of the season, and spent hours with it in the interim, only to end up having to give up the poor creature upon returning home, having woefully underestimated my powers of persuasion with my parents, and not helped at all by a poorly conceived version of what is, in fact, called the "puppy dog close" among sales professionals.
I spent a little time at the store, fully expecting to take Huntür and Misha home with me, but Huntür wanted to stay at the store, so I split, expecting Drew to drop them by around noon time.
I finished the radiogram before noon, and continued working by compiling the TOC for the huge job I contributed to last week (I'd already done 1/3 of the work for the section I'd done). An existing client - or at least, one I have already done work for - sent me something of a "form email" asking if I was interested in an upcoming project: I answered in the affirmative within 12 minutes of the initial message having been sent, but have yet to hear any reply.
The head of the agency I worked for during the past two weeks called while I was at the store and we burned the ether for nearly 20 minutes discussing various aspects of what happened, as well as prospects for the future. It would appear that a lot of things are coming together.
In other news, I have upgraded my VAIO's Linux partition with the latest/greatest version of Ubuntu. It'd be nice if I actually started to use the partition on a regular basis.
In yet other news, the dill I planted a few days before leaving for the job has wilted; the orchids are still doing well. The cilantro is - miraculously - still alive.
I returned to the store in time to send off the letter of commendation I received during the job, as well as the check for the unemployment insurance. The latter may be late, but at least the basic portion is paid.
Cheers...
