On station...
Jul. 2nd, 2006 11:43 pmWell, it took most of the day, but I'm finally in Baikonur.
As the client's lead had been bumped from his connection out of New York, the charter that took us from the domestic Sheremetevo airport to Kazakhstan was scheduled to leave at 1 pm instead of in the morning. Consequently, we were to leave the hotel at 10:30 am instead of the more traditional oh-dark-thirty.
Showing up for one of these launch campaigns is a lot like a camp reunion. A couple of people mentioned how happy they were to see me, which is always gratifying.
Everything went pretty smoothly during today's relocation. I even managed to catch a couple of winks on the plane. We checked into the hotel around 7:45 pm local time (7:45 am Pagosa time), and proceeded straight to business, with a briefing covering the usual subjects (safety, security) that finally let out after 9 pm and gave folks an opportunity to eat dinner.
There's not much left to say, except that I'm pretty tired and that observations about life, the universe, and everything in between will have to wait until at least tomorrow.
Cheers...
