A pause before continuing...
Aug. 3rd, 2006 11:57 amLaundry was the word for the morning, and I did some translation as my duds churned in the suds. I am now below the mythic 1,000 word level, which means I ought to finish the job the next time I sit down to address the document.
One of the team bought a bottle of absynthe in town yesterday, manufactured in Spain. I tried a small thimbleful for a taste after dinner and it - surprise! - tastes like licorice. Our comrade had a hefty snifter and was soon rolling along at a mile a minute; I don't know if that was the absynthe talking or just the alcohol (the stuff is 110 proof).
I got a copy of the narration yesterday, and will probably work on editing it into "speakable" English this afternoon. (I seem to recall LJ friend
bandicoot commenting "You sure say 'nominal' real well" the first time I did this gig, which was a sentiment shared by folks back at headquarters.)
I called Galina and we came to the conclusion that it makes sense for me to go back to Colorado until the store closes. She and Drew are running the store by themselves and Drew needs some time to go do some interviews, and in some weird way, I feel I really ought to be there to lock the door for the last time.
However, before I go buy a non-refundable, super-cheap ticket from Houston to Albuquerque, I want to make sure the rocket has been launched! (Everything has been going smoothly, to be sure, but the abortive attempt to launch the Soyuz a couple of weeks ago did so with mere seconds on the countdown clock.)
It's nearly noon. I'm due at work in an hour. Do the math.
Cheers...
Things to remember: get a copy of my Amex bill, call Amex in Moscow to see if they can supply me with a replacement card, try to get hold of the guy who found my wallet (if only I could backtrack a mail.ru address!).
