A job exceeding 1,000 words came in late today, a little late to get a good grip on it (or a good start), but at least it was something. Earlier in the day, Galina and I went to Home Depot to see if they had the necessary hardware for our bath faucets (they don't), followed by a couple of her favorite remodeling places, followed by Sam's Club for food.

I went back to the Home Depot to pick up connecting hoses when Galina decided against laying tile under where the washer and dryer are supposed to go, for now, in favor of installing the washer and dryer (so we could have clean clothes).

Walking past the hall bathroom, I spied a small, wiggly animal scurrying across the tile floor. It turned out to be a baby chameleon, and it had done a marvelous job of adapting itself to its background (the tile is a light beige). I captured it under a glass and carried it, with a red index card covering the mouth of the glass and the animal on the card, outside.

The creature did not turn red, and as I released it, I noticed that its skin seemed transparent, as I could make out its digestive tract and eyeballs through its skin. Galina says it is apparently the offspring of an adult that has the same appearance, which she described as "albino." I regret not getting a photo of the baby.

I had a fairly substantial nap in the afternoon, after which I continued to clean the detritus out of my office until the new work showed up. I found a number of useful items, the memory of which had become dim in my mind, nearly obscured by the repeated echo of the question "I wonder where that it?"

Among some interesting finds today were "sort and stick" index cards manufactured by 3M, which are a little like Post-It notes, except that you can stack and shuffle the cards without them sticking together, or mount them on a non-porous surface (white board, glass, smooth wall) to organize your thoughts. Somthing like this might give Merlin Mann's "Hipster PDA" idea a new twist, I don't know.

Another interesting item was a box of "XL" sized Ziploc bags at the Sam's Club, with the familiar Ziploc closure and a capacity of 10 gallons. I've already put a couple of them to work, as storage containers for the many cords, power adapters, and other electonic gadgets that I've accumulated over the past few years. The bags are probably too big for my intended purpose, but at least I didn't get the "XXL" size, which are probably suitable for storing blankets or similar items.

I've only got my keyboard around 600 or so new words tonight. Hopefully, the morrow will bring additional work.

Cheers...
