In an online economy, it's turning out to be real bear to document expenses for reimbursement. I'm having to call the clinic that did the blood test, for them to send a special receipt (what appears on my online statement is very innocuous; heck, it could represent a dry cleaning bill).

As for the rest, I'm using OneNote to clip the relevant parts of my online statements. It should work, but it sure is cumbersome!

Not bad, for a Friday.

Two rush-rush jobs, time spent tracking down online payments, filing an expense report, OCRing an article with way too many mathematical expressions (it doesn't work too well), and moving the few items we have in our house to allow a couple of guys to "stretch" our wall-to-wall carpet to get out some loose spots.

My desktop, which was DOA back when we first arrived here prior to my most recent campaign has been dusted and all the connectors and memory cards reseated. Not surprisingly, the unit now boots up.

It's not usable in its current location, which is my office. That's because it's an incredibly noisy machine (back in Pagosa, I got around that problem by literally making a hole in the wall and installing the machine in the next room, running all necessary wires - keyboard, mouse, monitor, USB, etc. - through the hole to my desk. That won't work here, as Galina doesn't want me to make any holes (and certainly not any through and through holes) in any walls, which probably makes sense, given the ultimate goal of selling the place.

Earlier in the week, I had spoken to my best client about local interpretation work and got the feeling I was getting a "don't call us, we'll call you" kind of response, which is sort of understandable, given that the company assiduously pursues candidates from the best schools in the country and hires them as full-time employees, and thus, may not need freelancers as much on a day-to-day basis for interpretation support. Today, however, I got a call from the interpretation manager at the company and ended up with four days of work next week, starting Monday, so there may be hope for me yet. I certainly will do my best to reestablish my reputation.

While my computer now boots, my bike now has a flat rear tire. In fact, both tires were flat when I looked at the bike yesterday, and I was able to inflate the front tire using an old 12-volt compressor we have in the garage, but no amount of inflation was able to get the rear tire to inflate past a certain point, and I felt a breeze (so to speak) coming out of one section of the tire after disconnecting the feed hose. I could not visually spot the hole, and was too lazy to make and use some soap solution; there's plenty of time for that tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, there's a rumor afoot that the city's museums will be thrown open to the public and that entry fees will be waived. Theoretically, Natalie will come by tomorrow and I hope we'll be able to take advantage of this rare opportunity, though I don't know where we'll go.

Despite the relatively early hour, I am tuckered. It's time, I think, to get some shuteye.

Cheers...
