Waiting on dinner...
Oct. 31st, 2006 07:01 pmToday's schedule got rearranged, so that my start time of 10 am (to go support an RF channel check at the pad) turned into an afternoon shift supporting a variety of miscellaneous details, including a trip over to Hall 111 where the launch vehicle has been integrated with the ascent unit and is undergoing more tests of every conceivable sort.
Though it may be All Hallows Eve, there won't be much of an opportunity to "celebrate," although the French team has arranged for a special dinner at the Proton Club that has pre-empted the usual dinner hour at the hotels.
This morning, I managed to get some calls in to Galina and Natalie, and then took some time to clean up and upload some new pictures to Flickr, including the following shot, of an apartment house in town.

This building is not far from an Antonov An-12 cargo plane that, for a reason yet unknown to me, is mounted for display near what would be called a "public housing development" back home. I was able to take the following curious picture as I drew near to the plane.

Breeze-M fueling is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, which I will be supporting together with Maya (me on Thursday, Maya on Friday). With any luck, I'll make the bus for a visit to the Energia facility at the cosmodrome, which is scheduled for Friday.
The weather has been simply stunning the past few days. Indeed, when the weather forecast was announced at this morning's meeting (the forecast is part of the meeting) folks were truly astounded at the predicted afternoon temperatures of 20-22°C (about 68-72°F). The past couple of nights, the silence outside the hotel was so complete that I could hear my leather belt creak when I leaned forward in my seat to get up. I never gets that quiet any more in Pagosa, much less Houston.
I should probably freshen up for the dinner. Work, dontcha know.
Cheers...
