No snow, yet...
Dec. 27th, 2006 06:25 pmThe promised snow hasn't arrived... yet. The five-day forecast currently puts the chances of snow at 20% for today, 60% for tomorrow, and 40% for Friday. The animated radar image (via the Weather Underground) shows a cloud mass northwest of Durango that appears to be drifting slowly to the northeast.
Considering we don't have snow tires installed on the van, any sort of snowfall at all is going to put a major damper on visiting anyone around here, especially Feht, who lives wa-a-ay down Cat Creek.
Downloading some fairly large files allowed me to observe that the maximum data rate via my BlackBerry is about 16 K/s here in Pagosa, which is better than dial-up, but nowhere near as good as the 50-60 K/s I used to get around here with DSL or the 80-90 K/s I get via my phone's broadband capability in Houston. Natalie has been using the unit most of the day with my old VAIO to play WoW.
In between trips downstairs to confront my junk, I've leafed through BlackBerry Hacks, one of the "Hacks" series from O'Reilly. So far, I'm not terribly impressed, as most of the hacks involve going out and buying additional software, which makes me view the book as something of a collection of advertisements. Hopefully, though, there's enough other information in the book to justify having bought it.
(But then again, I'm a cheap date in that regard, having learned - from the proprietor of the Gene Gordon Magic Shop in Buffalo, New York, oh! so many years ago - that if only one of 100 ideas in a book you paid $20 for saves you $50, you're getting a deal!)
Natalie is up for going to the supermarket in a few minutes. I think I will go along with her. Then maybe we'll watch the latest (and reportedly, the last) Jet Li epic, Fearless (which Natalie received for Christmas).
Cheers...
