Who drives around in the midday sun?
Jul. 13th, 2007 09:45 pmWhy, angry little puppies and their owners, that's who!
The day got off to a pretty good start, as Natalie, Shiloh, and I took off to take Natalie to her interview for a prospective position as a tech support specialist, at somewhat more than she's making now. I had put the crate in the back of the car, but after a few minutes of listening to Shiloh complain (damaging to the ears in the confines of the car), I took her out of the crate and kept her in my lap and away from Natalie's interview clothes.
After dropping off Natalie, I tried driving around for a while, with Shiloh in the crate, but it would seem that the dog's ability to make noise knows no reasonable bounds. After a half hour, I took her back out and returned to the interview site and parked in the shade of a tree to wait for Natalie to call and say she was through.
On the way home, Natalie and I noticed that the air conditioning had stopped working, which is never a good sign. I dropped Natalie off at the Honda dealership near the Hobby exit on 45 and continued home, stopping to pick up some gas. When I got home, I was feeling puny from the heat.
A half hour later, the dog and I were back on the road, and the traffic was terrible, so I couldn't even keep air flowing through the car. I think I almost passed out on the way to the vet's, and once we got there, I didn't really want to leave.
On the way home, I stopped by a Wal-Mart, but their automotive center doesn't do air conditioning, but an employee pointed me at a place that might help over on Spencer Highway. I got there and was able to get prompt attention, and managed to deflect the offer of a pressure test ($45) and charge ($95) in favor of a partial recharge ($35), which got the car cold enough to drive home in.
Once home, I zonked in the recliner for almost two hours, being awaked by a call about translation work for tomorrow, which I accepted because I received no other call about work next week.
I had just about gotten used to the idea of tomorrow being an off day, but the incoming files took care of that. I have about 6500 words due Sunday morning. I have done nothing tonight, and plan to do nothing but get a good night's sleep.
Cheers...
