I just learned that LJ friend [livejournal.com profile] bekar will be out of circulation for an unspecified time, which is a shame. His posts more often than not contain some really nice pictures, mostly of Paris. I hope he doesn't stay away for long!

Cheers...

A couple of weeks ago, the French news agency AFP circulated a story that began:
An elderly Iraqi woman shows two bullets which she says hit her house following an early coalition forces raid in the predominantly Shiite Baghdad suburb of Sadr City.
The accompanying photo shows the old lady and yep, she's holding two "bullets" (better known as "cartridges" by anyone who has ever mastered the very fundamental basics of firearms).

The Dissident Frogman has an interesting take on this.

A nice chunk of work came flooding through the ether this morning, about 9000 words due after Labor Day. If I'm smart, I'll make sure it's done before Monday.

My dad looked pretty spiffy when I saw him today. He says the plan for the immediate future is to transfer him to a place where he can undergo laser surgery for kidney stones. Based on my reading on the Internet, such surgery has a good chance of being uncomplicated and is certainly to be preferred over the alternative involving general anaesthesia and scalpels.

There's not a heck of a lot more to report, other than watching several episodes of something called The Dog Whisperer (where there appears to be a consistent theme of "the owner is not being assertive enough"). Still, the shows are not uninteresting.

I'm keeping Shiloh around me at all times, to allow me to interdict unwanted behavior. I'm not sure how successful I am, but I think progress is being made.

Cheers...
