Back to Katy...
Sep. 19th, 2007 08:44 pmIt was back up to the northwest end of town today. On Monday, I left Webster at 6:00 am and got to the hotel at 6:45 am; today, I left at 6:15 am and arrived shortly before 7:30 am. As far as I can tell, there were no accidents on the road, so the nonlinear behavior is probably normal.
During the morning, the Russian team was duking it out among themselves, so there really wasn't much work to do. One thing I did notice was how some things appear to be taking a long time to change. Speaking in broad terms, the Russian team is here to learn about an approach to business, one that runs counter to traditional, i.e., hierarchical, views on the roles of managers and subordinates. So I followed an interesting discussion on the top several motivators in the Russian workplace (money trailed the pack among the reasons).
There were some discussions to interpret in the afternoon, and then thankfully, the time rolled around for the meeting to break up so that folks could go to tonight's ball game. (If that hadn't been the case, I wouldn't doubt that getting out of there would have taken much longer, as there are individuals in this group that like to talk, and talk, and talk...)
I had my laptop out and alive during most of the meeting. However, unlike the other US participants, who - like most Americans - use their laptops during meetings to answer emails and accomplish other work - mine was booted into its Linux partition and I was taking pertinent notes regarding the subject and subject terminology. I don't think anyone noticed the strange desktop. Then again, there are two days left to the job.
I've been trying to connect with Andrew for several days regarding his and Shannon's flickr account. They've created one and say they've posted pictures to it, but I cannot see them, so on the way home, I called Shannon and asked her to ask Drew ot call me after he gets home from work.
I'm going to relax now, maybe do some light cleanup (though I doubt it), and wait for Drew's call.
Cheers...
