Two offers of work from new clients, neither of which panned out.

One, however, did turn into a proofreading job (not an editing job), so it's not as if the effort was a complete loss.

Continuing with the good news, the last $40 invoice for the French client appears to have been paid after I (re)sent the invoice. (Now, if only I could say the same for the Manhattan agency that owed me about $1700!)

I need to light a fire under my butt. Daylight's doing its thing!

Cheers...

I had this idea of leaving for Pagosa on Monday, but I found pretty much all the documents I needed for the lawyer to start the ball rolling, so there's little to hold me here. I had given some thought to perhaps going out for the evening, but my heart wouldn't have been in it. I've begun to clean the place up and will finish tomorrow, then pack, do some last-minute errands, and then set out for Colorado on Saturday morning.

I was surprised to find that there are remarkably few computer stores in Nassau County, at least any large stores comparable to Fry's in other parts of the country. I could only find one listing for some place called Micro Center, but my needs aren't so great that I couldn't go by the local Staples. OTOH, Staples isn't cheap.

I left Houston without an A Male/B Male USB 2.0 cable, which is what is needed to plug into the CX6400 scanner/printer. An online look at the docs indicates that the flashing red ink LED merely indicates low ink (as opposed to "need to buy a cartridge"), so theoretically, I ought to be able to scan to the computer, as long as I can get my hands on a suitable USB cable.

Staples has such cables clustered all around the printer section of the store, and they cost between $25 and $30, depending on length. According to the carton words, these are very high-quality cables with gold-plated contacts, or some such ballyhoo. Myself, personally, I've never had any problem with any el-cheapo cable that came with a printer (an item that you know, deep inside, was procured from the lowest bidder), so the argument didn't wash with me. Eventually, I did find a $10 "retractable" USB cable of the required configuration, but have yet to try it out. There is a pile of documents that I'd like to scan before I leave.

If the DVD content is consistent across disks, I have just 7 episodes of the first season of Heroes left to watch. The crew working on the story line is quite imaginative, but I cannot help but think that this may just become another overmilked story, such as the 120-episodes of The Fugitive in which Dr. Kimble kept flitting about for the one-armed man the way a moth flies about a lamp.

Time to get going to bed. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day.

Cheers...
