The Shinola test...
Nov. 12th, 2007 11:29 pmI couldn't really make up my mind today about what I was doing.
I started to work on the translation, but Galina really wanted me to work on packing the stuff in my office, so I did that, but kept bouncing back to my computer for "breaks" during which, instead of working on the translation, I would surf the 'net. (What gives with that?)
One of the really crazy things about moving is how you can pack boxes of stuff away and still not perceive any "motion" toward some end point, until you get to some critical juncture, at which point the physical appearance of the site being moved from changes radically and it starts to look empty.
I think I am on the cusp of that happening with my office.
The one thing I'm poor at when it comes to moving is keeping track of things that must not be lost track of, e.g., driving licenses, one-of-a-kind USB cables (can we say "iPod"?), work in progress, checks to be deposited, medications, keys of various kinds. You get the picture.
Well, I've set up a separate suitcase, by golly, for Stuff I Cannot Live Without™, and so far, it seems to be working. The key to it working is this: every time I put my grubby paws on something I don't want to temporarily lose, I walk it into the next room and place it in the suitcase. Not near the suitcase, not on the suitcase, but in the suitcase. (Mutters Shepherd's Prayer while typing this.)
Anyway, after being sidetracked for a few by the public tv telecast of Billy Crystal winning the Mark Twain award, I sat down and finished the translation (all the bits in text boxes, about 800 words) and polished it, and just sent it off.
Also, in the course of the day, I was pressed, in the course of two phone calls, for news regarding my availability over the next couple of weeks, and had to disappoint some folks. Oh, well...
I can devote tomorrow pretty much to the task of packing what's left, though the scuttlebutt says there's some large jobs maybe coming my way, due the end of the month, which would be nice. Whether that happens or not, I need to get to sleep soonest, so as to wake up refreshed.
With any luck, I won't toss or turn. I think I'm messing up my shoulder when I do that.
Cheers...
