Getting out...
Nov. 28th, 2007 06:23 pmWork came in apace, with 9,000 words due Saturday morning, but I just couldn't plant my carcass in front of the computer screen today, as too many other things were vying for my attention.
Chief among them was the car that I had the local service station come by and pick up, as it wouldn't start, had a flat tire, and perhaps other faults. The station called to say the car was ready, but before we could go pick it up, I needed to help Galina vacuum the bedroom end of the house and move some furniture around.
While I was doing that, I was giving some additional thought to turning the den in to an office. Basically, two obstacles stand in the way of that happening: First, and probably the easier of the two to address, is the lack of adequate lighting (and probably, of the means to install it, as in wiring), as the circuitry in the den - as is the case generally of this house - appears to have been designed by someone with not much confidence in the future of this newfangled electricity thing. Second, the house's cable outlet is in the den, as is the television itself. Running more wire ought not be a problem, relatively speaking. Getting the monster teevee down from the den, though, is going to take several people. Nevertheless, I took the first step in moving my office up there: I moved a former dining room table into the room, to serve as part of my future work/reference surface.
Eventually, we did pick up the car and do some shopping, down in the vicinity of Roosevelt Field, and upon returning home, I cooked dinner. However, I don't think I'm going to get much translation done tonight, if at all.
Playing hooky, I think it's called.
Cheers...
