Slowness, thy name is Friday...
Jan. 11th, 2008 06:33 pmI got a call from my best client this morning, but missed it and didn't realize I had missed it until late in the day, after the person who called went home. I then managed to answer another call from a different client, but only after I came back from t'ai chi, by which time the work had been assigned to someone else.
It's not as if I have nothing on my plate, of course. And it's nice to know that work is back "in season," so to speak.
The t'ai chi class went well, and I found out there is an open wireless network at the library. I also made a snap decision to devote some attention to filling in various "holes" in my reading, starting with Joseph Heller's Catch 22.
I selected the Heller book because while browsing the Internet at the library, which sports a wireless network and happens to be a good place to find books, I read a completely confused definition of what a "catch 22" is on my friends list.
If I recall correctly, the "catch" was that for an aviator to get out of flying missions, he had to be declared mentally unstable, that such a declaration could be obtained only after a psychiatric evaluation, that such an evaluation could be arranged by applying for it, but the fact you had the sense to apply for such an evaluation precluded your being declared mentally unstable, which meant there was no way to get out of flying missions.
(The astute reader might be wondering, "If AlexPGP never read the book, how can he have any inkling of its plot?" The answer is simple, and consists of two words: Cliff's Notes.)
I got through the first dozen pages or so of the Real Deal while lying down to rest in preparation for tonight's night out, and understood that this was going to be a fun read.
I should probably go start getting ready to go out with Galina. It's been a while.
Cheers...
