First day...
Feb. 13th, 2008 10:24 pmAside from the time Galina went to Houston, this is the first day I've been alone up here in my office, and it hasn't been much... well, "fun" is probably not the word, but I'll use it anyway.
It's certainly been cold. We woke to about an inch of very wet snow on the ground, getting wetter by the second under a light drizzle. By mid-morning, hardly any of the white stuff was left.
I spent the day translating the item for the new client, and my efforts to do a really spiffy job resulted, I imagine, in a product not markedly different from what I usually provide, except for the time invested. Right now, however, I need to find the CD - there it is! - on which I copied my 2007 work materials (including invoices and supporting documentation) before deleting them from my VAIO, as their combined volume of just over 2 GB was starting to cramp my style.
In retrospect, I think it might've been better to keep the files on my machine (or upgrade my onboard memory stick to 4 GB and copy them there, along with the stuff from 2006 that's already on the 1-GB unit that's in there now), since I may find the files to be of additional use throughout the year. (What a concept!)
Another assignment arrived to take the place of this one, in front of the one due Monday. (Yay!)
[...]
The translation has been sent, along with an invoice. I've also created an ftp account for the client on a new hosted server, in case the email gets lost and I can't be reached by phone (cell reception around here is mostly good, sometimes lousy). It took a while to make sure it was done right (the first time, I created the client's directory in the public_html directory, which wasn't too swift, as pretty much anyone could access the files), and I am puzzled by the behavior of FileZilla (it keeps trying to upload the files on top of themselves, and eventually errors out), which forced me to resort to opening a DOS window and invoking ftp manually.
I look at the time and I shudder. It's been a long day. It's time to hit the hay.
My самочувствие (a word I cannot find a good translation of, as it doesn't quite mean "health" or even "well-being," which are the meanings you'll find in most dictionaries) is good, and my efforts to keep a food consumption diary continue from yesterday.
Cheers...
