You can't make this stuff up...
Jun. 17th, 2008 10:22 amRecently, the Associated Press invoked the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to enjoin the "fair use" of quotations of its stories at a site called The Drudge Retort.
According to an item in this morning's Boing Boing, it turns out the Associated Press expects bloggers, journalists, and people who forward quotations from its articles to license that right, starting at $12.50 for quotations of between 5 and 25 words.
It gets better, too, as the Associated Press reserves the right to terminate your license at any time if they decide that your use of their words is offensive or damages their reputation. (No word on whether they refund your license fee, but I wouldn't hold my breath.)
I tell you, the management over at Associated Press is partaking of some seriously bad drugs.
Cheers...
