The last time I exhibited any tendency to arrange my schedule around the television took place around the next-to-last season of The X Files, and that came to an end when Galina developed a yen for Alias, which competed with the adventures of Mulder and Scully.

However, last night and tonight, I had every intention of catching some season premieres. I almost did so, too.

Last night, I missed the very first few minutes of CSI: Miami but picked up the story after the first commercial. I was curious to see how the character played by David Caruso was going to get out of the hole made for him at the end of the previous season.

On the whole, for a show that purports to be oh-so-scientific, there were almost as many holes in the robbed armored car that was part of the story as there were in the story itself, and the end of the episode made me think I was watching a bad remake of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. I think I shall go back to being a passive CSI watcher.

Tonight, I embarked on a trip to the Pagosa Brewing Company to pick up a jug of Poor Richard's Ale, thinking I had plenty of time before the start of NCIS, in a season premiere that had Mark Harmon's entire team disbanded. I got back at 7:30 pm, halfway through the story, and was not impressed with the rest of it, though honestly that might be the result of having missed so much to begin with.

Immediately after that came the premiere of a new show, The Mentalist, which I thought was done pretty well, but I wonder how much my admiration was for good acting and scripting and how much was for a new twist to a pretty old theme. If I remember to watch this one next week, I might have more of an answer to that question.
Today must've been some kind of get-close-to-media day for me, because I broke down and purchased a Grateful Dead album (Workingman's Dead) on iTunes that I really didn't need, except that it had a version of Uncle John's Band that I really wanted to hear.

Before I knew it, I had also purchased Regina Spektor's Begin to Hope album, the result of repeatedly running into the young woman's tracks here and there, not to mention a lot of tracks that I think try to sound like her.
It's the same old story about work - I didn't get as much done as I had hoped to get done - except that I'm happy to report that I'm finally starting to refuse jobs. And considering I had a blood draw this morning before I had eaten anything... well, anything was something.

Cheers...
