It's 'clent' time...

In response to an inquiry to do proofreading, I write:
I regret I will not be able to undertake this project. Thanks for your inquiry.
The response to my response? This:
Thank you for the quick response! Could you please indicate your best delivery date then?
I guess it serves me right for trying to be civil and diplomatic.

In other news, somehow, unbelievably, I've wasted much of the morning dealing with extension forms for something called "fiduciary income tax." (Blyeah!) Now I must waste extra time to go to the post office to make sure they are properly postmarked. The only upside to the trip will be posting Galina's passport renewal at the same time.

Cheers...

Fourth down, right where I want to be... (almost!)

I finally got started on the last part of the translation job due tomorrow at around 3 pm. I did so with trepidation, because there is almost no way to speed up the work. It's like driving a long distance: if you're 4 hours away from your destination, and traveling at pretty much the speed limit, an hour from now, you'll be 3 hours away. Thus, knowing that it'll take, say, 8 hours to finish the last chunk feels pretty lousy that late in the day.

The only way this can change in translation is if you use a "translation memory" program that keeps a database of the sentences you've translated and the author of the document you're translating decides to compile a summary that consists largely of sentences that have already appeared earlier in the document.

I was incredibly lucky, because that's pretty much exactly what happened to me today. What should have taken me 7 to 8 hours took me 5 (which includes unrecorded time to wolf down dinner). So there was even a little "evening" time free.

The plate is still heaped high, but not to the point of spilling. I cannot wait for Saturday afternoon.

Cheers...
