Moving along smoothly...
Jul. 18th, 2009 11:18 pmTranslations were sent off with no problem, though I should probably sit down and invoice them tomorrow. (Come to think of it, I still have 2,000 words of science fiction to complete!)
The instructions that arrived with the kefir grains on Thursday indicated that because of the stress of postal transit, it might take 24-48 hours for kefir to form the first couple or three times the grains are used.
If I consider separation of curds from whey as a milestone for kefir formation, then the first batch took between 32 and 37 hours (no separation when I went to sleep last night, but separated when I got up this morning). I just checked, and the second batch has taken about 14 hours.
Of course, the volume of milk used has been small, about 8 oz. for the first batch and 12 oz. for the second.
My principal difficulty is making sure I don't destroy the grains when I try to separate them from the kefir.
* * * Watched Ramen Girl this evening. I enjoyed the movie, particularly its bilingual angle. I might even watch it again.
It's late. Time to get to sleep and get up early to translate the sci-fi before Drew and some other fellows come over to help move refrigerators and suchlike.
Cheers...
