Wow! I am impressed!
Feb. 19th, 2010 07:42 amThe file that upset me so yesterday had an initial word count of 20.
These words were scattered over 57 pages, and after I had dealt with every last text box in the file, the final word count was... 20.
It's a well-known "feature" of Word that it doesn't count words in text boxes, which sometimes makes a chore of the translator's life, dependent as it is on word count.
This is a case in point.
Incredibly, there is utility called Complete Word Count available at no charge online, at the web site of one Shauna Kelly, that appears to do a bang-up job counting words that Word ignores in its word count: headers, footers, comments, and text boxes.
Oh, and the word count for the text boxes in the file?

Cheers...
P.S. One strange thing that happened when I tried to download it to my Windows 7 machine: the directory in which it was to be saved was suddenly marked "read-only" before the file was saved, meaning the file wasn't saved. Saving on webster went well, and the file passed an extra virus and malware scan, so go figure...
