Including today, I have 10 calendar days to complete the Progeny of the Next Big Job™, which amounts to a shade under 3,000 source words per day.

Translating fewer words somewhere along the line only increases overall stress, as having, say, 9,000 source words to go with the assignment due the next day is a most unenviable position.

On the other hand, translating more words - wa-a-ay more words (say, about 6,000) - early in the cycle only contributes to a feeling of burnout, where you feel you would rather have your dog rip out your teeth with rusty pliers than translate one more word.

That's why I'm stopping after 4,000 source words since starting this morning, which includes time taken for lunch, helping Galina clear some wood from the side of the house, and going to get mail. So far - knock wood - the text has been cooperative, and the only words I've researched are those for which I think there is a better rendering.

If I can coax an equivalent number of words out of my fingers tomorrow, I'll be 2/3 of a day ahead of schedule, which isn't so much as to tempt me to slack off, but is enough to leave me with a good feeling about the job.

In other news, Vistaprint overperformed on delivery (they promised a week, it took 4 days, including the day of the order). As for the cards, I'm a little ambivalent.

I decided to splurge (since the cards were essentially free) and have them printed on heavy stock, but they don't feel as if they have been printed on heavy stock. The colors don't look as good as they did on my monitor, and the colored background varies between the illustration and the part of the card with my information.

The card is usable, I guess, but I'm going to look around for something with a bit more snap. One good point: The QR code on the back works.

Cheers...
