Standing by...
May. 17th, 2010 11:06 amToday will be a pretty light day all around, even for the propellant team, whose primary job today will be to clear away the containers used to to load oxidizer aboard the spacecraft and then set up the fuel containers that will be used tomorrow and Wednesday.
Dinner last night was corned beef and cabbage, followed by ice cream and Irish coffee. The corned beef was fine, although a couple of the Russians were puzzled as to why anyone would want to prepare beef in a manner that made it taste like ham.
Having finished the Sledge memoir about Peleliu and Okinawa, a few days ago, I searched Amazon for a Kindle version of Robert Leckie's Helmet for My Pillow: From Paris Island to the Pacific, but nothing showed up. For laughs, I did the same search again today and struck paydirt. I don't know what I did differently, as the difference had nothing to do with the time interval (the Leckie book has been available for the Kindle for some time).
This kind of thing has happened to me before, and only emphasizes (and extends) the wisdom of not only asking (without which there can be no favorable answer), but asking several times. (Said wisdom is particularly useful when dealing with bureaucracies.)
For what it's worth, I have been reading like a madman during this campaign (nine books and two novelettes read, three books in progress), and I'm close to exhausting the books I care to read from the downstairs collection of campaigner-contributed volumes.
If it's not too hot out this afternoon (and nothing happens to change my standby status), I plan to walk around our area a few times and stretch my legs. Right now, I'm contemplating a pre-lunch nap.
Cheers...
