Working Thursday...
Jul. 8th, 2010 07:35 pmAfter informing a prospective client that I wasn't interested in filling in scads of forms in order to be considered for work, I have been sent... scads of forms in order to be considered for work, along with a "contractor's agreement" that pretty much explains my obligations but is pretty light on the prospective client's obligations.
Typical of the language in the agreement was the clause that said if I didn't cash their payment check within 120 days, the payment would be considered as having been made. It's that kind of junk that tempts me to send the agreement to get "the full monty" from my lawyer, but typically, such shops have enough translator fodder in their database so as to not have to deal with translators who, uh, send agreements to their lawyer for vetting. Oh, well.
A bunch of work came in today, which is good. With any luck, I'll get most of it done this weekend.
What has been misplaced has been found.
I learned today that my Marriott Rewards level is "Silver Elite," which will get me a coffee at nearly any Starbucks in the continental United States, provided I have a $5 bill on me.
For reasons best known to itself, a couple of weeks ago, Capital One decided to send me a new credit card a month early, and to cancel the old credit card that was to expire at the end of this month. And they did it while I was traveling. Or maybe because of it, but I'll never know, because Capital One customer support only knows what the computer system displays, which is mostly wrong and never twice the same information.
To add inscrutability to the insult that was sitting atop of injury, the replacement card was not valid, which required me to call and find out that the old account number had been canceled and a new account number had been issued, for reasons that make little sense. Stay tuned for developments. I am.
Cheers...
