Scrambling to clear the decks...
Dec. 23rd, 2010 07:28 pmThere were two projects remaining to be done this morning, and to my detriment, I did not look at the scope of the work until yesterday, when I found that today's assignment was huge. Fortunately, the work was made manageable by my translation memory database, but still: I got up at 6 am and went at the face of the mine pretty much until about 4 pm, with short breaks for refreshment.
Anyway, in light of the fact that the day was pretty much shot anyway, once the main work was out of the way and sent, I continued with the item due tomorrow and am about 33% complete there.
The weather has hardly changed, it seems. We are at the tail end of a weather system that has dumped large quantities of snow north and west of us (the official weather service forecast out of Grand Junction speaks of snow "of epic proportions" in the Rockies north of us, and of up to 15 feet of snow has fallen in the California mountains).
Fortunately, although there is snow on the ground right now, the system has caused our local precipitation to go back and forth between wet snow and rain. The between the air temperature and the wet ground, the falling snow has refused to stick even after having fallen for several hours. If the snow continues into the night, I imagine a different situation by morning.
Our local roads are clear, but our driveway is nothing but slushy snow and is basically impassible (one of our cars remains parked at the bottom of our hill, and if the snow gets its act together and really starts to fall, that's where it may remain for a while).
Cheers...
