Grab my attention, why don't you?
Mar. 7th, 2011 01:39 pmOne of my favorite opera scenes occurs at the end of Mozart's Don Giovanni, when the Commendatore (whom Don Giovanni killed early in Act I) enters Don Giovanni's house and exhorts him to repent of his wickedness. A few years ago, I found a YouTube clip of a performance in which the Commendators enters through the back door of the auditorium, after which the scene is played out with the participation of the audience. The concept was interesting without being over-the-top (I wonder what Mozart would've thought of it), and the performance was very good.
The other day, I went looking for that clip and couldn't find it, but then again, I didn't look too hard after finding a truly gripping performance of the scene that just about took my breath away.
Don Giovanni! a cenar teco m'invitasti!
Indeed.
Cheers...
