There are few things more intimidating than receiving a 71-slide PowerPoint presentation for translation whose statistics show nearly 8,000 words of content.

There are, consequently, few things more satisfying than translating such a monster (containing a couple of thousand numbers, which does ease the pressure) in less time—about half, as it turned out—than one has allocated for it.

That means that completing the remaining 4,000 source words I have due on Monday is a goal that is definitely within my grasp without having to undertake any kind of heroic effort.

In other news, it's a damp, cold day out beyond the window pane. The idea of accompanying the kids to do some shopping in Durango went south yesterday because of the volume of time I had anticipated my work would take, but then the kids decided the trip was a "no go" on their own. I'll probably end up shopping locally, albeit for fewer goods.

In yet other news, I've run across a site called memrise, whose aim is to apparently help people memorize things (with the most salient offering being foreign language vocabulary). I started with their set of beginning Chinese ideograms and have branched out into intermediate French vocabulary.

(To which I can only say: "Sapirlipopette!", my mnemonic for which is "Gadzooks! A military engineer (sapper) having liposuction done on his pet chihuahua.")

Cheers...
