The Pledge (2001)
Apr. 29th, 2011 04:43 pmThis was recommended by Netflix, and since I've enjoyed Jack Nicholson's acting in most movies after Carnal Knowledge, I thought I'd give it a view. Little did I suspect that the movie would spend a lot of time building suspense and positing issues that kept me wondering how it would work out, only to have the story thumb its nose at me in the last few minutes, leaving me with that "sucker" feeling, the one where you realize you've just wasted two hours of your life.
It was as if, in that last scene in Casablanca, Rick had collapsed of a heart attack instead of shooting Major Strasser at the airport, allowing Strasser to stop the plane and take Laszlo and Lund away to prison.
Cheers...
