Staying alert...
May. 26th, 2011 10:15 amYesterday was a fairly slow day, made slower by continuing to work on the art translation. As of this morning, I have just about 3K source words left.
Two emails came in yesterday from potential new clients. One was from a client who first approached me in mid-March, then again at the end of April, asking if I was available to undertake work, then again about a week later, responding to an email of mine, saying that details were still being worked out, and then finally yesterday, telling me the job was a 'go,' with details to follow and a deadline of June 6.
Unfortunately, today is not the end of April, and my current and expected work flow and some travel plans won't allow me to take on the project.
The other email offered work and asked for a quote. I quoted. I've heard nothing back, but since I suspect I am competing with some other folks the prospective client gleaned from the ProZ.com membership, I suspect sticker-shock as the reason.
Some expected work flow came in today, three assignments due at staggered intervals over the next few days. That, added to those last 3K words ought to just about keep me busy into Memorial Day.
* * * In other news, our prospective New York renter appears to be leaving everything to the last minute, since technically, the contract that's been in his hands for quite some time calls for him to take possession of the house tomorrow. Should the renter elect to rent the place, Galina, naturally, will have to move out. And since it really wouldn't make much sense for Galina to come back to Pagosa just to pack a bag and return to New York with me next week, I've responded to some Craig's List posts offering relatively inexpensive, short-term rentals in Manhattan to find out more about them.
(Of course, our prospective renter's silence could also mean he's not really interested in renting the place, and simply doesn't care to let us know, for reasons of his own, in which case no apartment rental will be required. My feelings about that can be summarized at this point as: Tant mieux pour nous, tant pis pour lui!)
Cheers...
