Lloret de Mar, day 2...
Jun. 27th, 2011 04:21 pmOur room is in a part of town that resembles Ft. Lauderdale on spring break, squared and cubed and stuffed into an area barely large enough to accommodate a few football fields.
I was awakened last night at around 3 am by voices down at street level, one of which I could hear from my fourth-floor perch, speaking good, sober English with a distinctive African accent. The subject of the discussion was respect, and why it was important for people to respect one another.
The "respect" being discussed was not that elusive substance that may or may not evaporate after a night of wanton sex between consenting adults, but that macho quality that generally sees discussions of this type evetually degenerate into a brawl involving the cops and requiring, at the very least, multiple stitches.
Fortunately for all parties concerned, the discussion kept going around in circles for so long that all parties involved agreed to disagree, for the time being, and dispersed. Things seemed to have quieted down when the seagulls began to laugh their way through a morning greeting to the rising sun, during which it was not really possible to sleep.
We finally rose at 9:00 am, ate breakfast downstairs (which looked a lot cheerier with the tables set with white linens and place settings), and then headed off to meet with Galina's niece and her boyfriend. The four of us eventually bought tickets for a boat ride that took us along the coast to Tossa de Mar, where we walked around, had a nice lunch, and then came back.
Checking my inbox shows no incoming jobs, and for now, I'm not complaining. Photos later, maybe. I should go find connectivity so I can Skype Huntür on her 10th birthday.
Cheers...
