Wasting time in Provence...
Jul. 1st, 2011 07:27 pmWe probably shouldn't have, but seeing as how piles of documents needing translation are sent when the month changes, we decided to hang around the house until stuff either showed up or it turned 2:30 pm. We left the house at around 2:35; at 2:39 work showed up. It's not urgent, but it's not much, either. My bad.
The bank problem had not been cleared up by the time we got to town, and when I showed up at the post office to just plain-old exchange some dollars for euros, I was told that they didn't accept $100 bills or singles (which was pretty much all I had). So for yet another day, we relied on plastic.
Connectivity via our host's ADSL has been spotty through the day. Earlier, I determined that the 30-minute limit on connectivity claimed for my 100-MB data purchase was a complete crock, since a search of the SFR web site eventually turned up the information that such a purchase, once activated, is good for 30 days. (To be charitable, I'll assume that the young man who told me it was good for 30 minutes meant it would provide about 30 minutes of downloading time, though I have my doubts.)
Indeed, I also found out that the SIM card purchase came with three days of unlimited network access, which probably means I am currently the proud owner of an unactivated 100-MB data package, since I never activated the one I got when I got the SIM card (I assumed—there's that word again—that the active SIM card was the result of having purchased the 100-MB of data connectivity.
Anyway, from the bank, we headed over to the Intermarché, where we replaced the food we had eaten and picked up some items to nibble upon, including tapenade, some mushrooms prepared Greek style, something that looks like liverwurst, and some Saint Agur cheese. One of the two baguettes we picked up at the store disappeared during our late afternoon snack, thus justifying the decision to buy two and keep me off the road tomorrow morning.
An ad on the television speaks of an episode of NCIS to be aired in a little over an hour, dubbed in French. I can't wait.
Cheers...
