Colonel Nicholson spoke of being "closer to the end than to the beginning" and during last season's final episode of Castle, Martha Rogers—Castle's mother—spoke as one "who was more than halfway through the movie." Sure, they're both fictitious characters, but what they speak of is real.

And it actually takes some number of birthdays for the realization to move from an intellectual acknowledgment to a sort of palpable sensation that makes one pause from time to time to look at clouds in the sky, or the grass underfoot, or the laughing interaction between grandson, dog, hose, and sparkling sprays of water.

It's snowing.

I don't expect it will stick, though, because over the past few days, the rain has well and truly soaked the ground, offering a formidable thermal mass that will melt any snow that lands on the ground for quite a while.

We'll see what develops.

Cheers...

The white stuff is still falling, and if this keeps up through the night, there may very well be a layer of white on the ground in the morning.

I woke on my own this morning at a little after 4, the fact of which I ascertained by looking at my phone, which duly informed me that I had mail waiting from a client. It was a short assignment, which made getting up early just a bit more tolerable, and that assignment was followed by an avalanche of documents that weighed in at a hair over 10,000 source words.

Even with a short nap in the afternoon, I managed to send back just over 5,000 target words by 3 pm my time, and I ought to be able to send back the rest of the material by the end of the day tomorrow.

In other news, the party that looked at the house earlier this week came by again today, and it may very well be that this place will be rented by the end of the month. There is good news (the house will be rented at the end of the month) and bad news (we have to empty the joint by the end of the month) associated with this development. I plan to take this situation "one day at a time."

In yet other news, I've been hitting the Spanish word lists on memrise.com pretty hard lately, and have managed to elevate my "all-time" score—in some respects, the site resembles a video game—to over 600,000 points, which is a mark that 60 other site participants have achieved to date. For sure, the site gives me an opportunity to exercise my diseased imagination when it comes to dreaming up mnemonics to help recall vocabulary.

Cheers...
