The work computer stayed off today, by design. Then again, it's not as if I'm taking any sort of holiday from the use of computing devices, as there are enough other such items in the house. But the work computer nevertheless remained off.

On impulse, we drove to the IKEA store in Hempstead for breakfast, about which I can say that ithe IKEA "big breakfast" is better than the offering of the same name at McDcnald's, at a better price. While at IKEA, we picked up some kitchen necessities, too.

From there, we drove to the H Mart at Hillside Avenue and Herricks Road, where I sought to find the ingredients for pad thai sauce, per a recipe I found at chez pim, but the tamarind package seemed rather large for my needs, nobody seemed to know if the store carried palm sugar (nor could I find any), and I felt no burning desire (pun sort of intended) to buy Thai chili when we already have a considerable quantity of hot powders and sauces hanging around the house. (And fish sauce... well, doesn't everyone always have a bottle of the stuff on hand?)

I'm sure we'll improvise something.

I've lost about 6 pounds since I've begun to simply pay attention to what I eat and how much I move around, and I am both elated and ashamed to say that it took fussing with an electronic gadget for me to achieve that level of interest. Over the past two weeks, I have consistently been walking more than 10,000 steps per day (the current count is over 12,500), and getting to a level where—according to the fitbit device—I'm burning 3,500 calories per day, if not more.

This is not a bad result for two weeks of "effort," during which I haven't resorted to starving myself (although I will admit to opening the refrigerator from time to time to look for a snack, but then thinking better of it and closing the door), nor engaging in any exercise other than walkiing, climbing stairs (24 stories today so far), and hauling leaves down the hill.

I think perhaps this week I might introduce a few crunches, for variety.

Cheers...
