Going nuts at the H Mart...
Dec. 13th, 2011 11:04 pmSome work did arrive this morning, but the part that needed to be turned around quickly didn't take all that long, and although Galina encouraged me to go into Manhattan, I decided to take care of some errands in the vicinity.
After hitting the bank to make a much-needed deposit, it occurred to me that I could either stop at the Stop 'n Shop on the way home (I've pretty much given up on the King Kullen... where with rare exceptions prices are not only higher, but eyebrow-raisingly higher, IMO) or I could go a little bit more out of my way and visit the H Mart, which appears to be one of the few Asian markets in the area.
Among other goodies, such as natto, makkoli, aloe drink, and udon, I decided to buy a small slab of sushi-quality tuna and a squid.
Part of the tuna was consumed as sushi this evening. Another portion was eaten as sashimi when it became clear that my beginner's attempts at molding sushi rice into well-formed "fingers"—my word—were falling way short of the mark. (As in: the very first portion I made fell apart on the way from the plate to my mouth!)
As for the squid, I bought it because I wanted to see what it takes to clean it, cook it, etc., and if all that ends up being too labor-intensive, the squid will provide the cats with a treat.
Cheers...
