More work arrived this morning. After the dust settled, it turns out I have about 12,000 words and 103 one-page PDFs to complete by next Wednesday.

Some of the PDFs are pretty simple; others, not so much. They all will require some time to modify, so even assuming I do nothing but key 16 drawings per day with labels, I'm probably looking at 2 hours a day for just that.

Add in actually translating the content of those 16 pages and another roughly 2,000 words of "non-PDF" text per day, and I think I'm looking at a pretty hectic next few days.

The good news: I've already completed almost half of today's slug of "non-PDF" text.

Excelsior!

Besides being a marvelous punch line to a lawyer joke, the title of this post describes today's progress.

The only way to really get a handle on a job involving over 100 one-page PDF files is to print them all out so as to be able to quickly refer to them, so I did that this morning. In addition, since most of the pages will have to be marked up to key what's on them to what will be in a separate translation file, it would be simply marvelous if I could group common labels in such a way as to maximize the prospects of cut-and-paste.

As far as actual, um, translation was concerned, I did 4,200 words of the 8,500 from The Big Job™, and another roughly 900 of the 4,000 left of The Literary Translation™, which basically puts me about 40% toward the goal. At this rate, I'll "run out" of words sometime Sunday, leaving the first three days of next week to deal with the PDF files (if that's how I choose to arrange things).

In other news, I was able to lend a hand to a FOAF on FB, who didn't know what to do or who to turn to after a carefully built FB page of his-—about a book he has written on a certain Frederick Thomas, a black man who lived and worked in pre-Revolutionary Russia—went "poof" (clicking on its link takes you to your home page). I was able to coax a copy out of the Google cache, so at least something of the page has been salvaged.

All in all, today's efforts have involved a fairly long day, with periods of particularly intense verbal profanity in the face of various Word oddities. Well and truly, my eyeballs need a rest.

Cheers...
