I am going to have to make a point of checking Word files for fields that display text, because it turns out that not only does Wordfast not understand how to play nicely with such entities, but memoQ simply goes and displays tags at you, so unless you're savvy enough to be looking at the source document while using memoQ (to get an idea of why the tag is there), you might find yourself—as I did last night while editing a partial delivery—having to do a lot of extra work after you've finished the translation.

In other news, that sizzling sound of electrons being consumed in fire was coming from my Internet connection. A total of 63 files hit my inbox for translation.

I'm still trying to figure out what-all I've been given to work with.

I still have only an approximate idea of how much work I'm looking at, since a significant number files in the the tsunami of work that landed into my inbox this morning are drawings in PDF format.

However, if I turn away from the mountain of stuff that's "to be done" and look at the hill of stuff that I managed to complete today, I can't complain (and won't). I finished despeckling a fairly large file, translated about 600 target words in three smaller files, then tapped out another target 1600 words in a report. Since dinner, I lucked out (with a patch of very clear source text) and managed to chop another 1400 source words from what's left of the long-term job due next week.

That does not mean I can sit on my laurels. By my estimate, I'm going to have to deal with an average of 10 files per day from today's incoming and about 1,000 words per day of the job due next week to get everything done in a timely manner.

A nice even strain, that's all that's needed!

Cheers...
