You begin to get an idea of what's in store for you when you wake up on Monday morning and wonder, "Is it Monday?"

Before I could even fire up my computer, I had one email in my inbox with "routine" correspondence for translation. By the time I got my computer turned on and settled down, that number had turned to three. By the time I returned the first email, one additional email had arrived.

One down, three to go.

These are generally short items, somewhere around 250 words overall. I've been doing them long enough to where I sometimes feel I can predict the course of the correspondence (i.e., compose a response, and then the reply to that response).

By the time all the short items were done, there were three new items on the plate, each weighing in at around 15,000 source words.

In between word fun, after calling Drew to arrange for him to stop by and give me a jump, I went out to the car to set it up for the jump, and tried starting it (just for laughs). The laugh was on me. The car started right up. I called Drew and told him what happened. I then ran a bunch of errands but kept the car running in a far corner of whatever parking lot I was in. When I got home, I turned the ignition off, counted to ten, and turned the key to start the car.

The car started.

My current hypothesis—supported by Drew—is that some part of the Infiniti's electrical system is starting to flake out, which makes starting using a less-than-100% battery an iffy proposition. Between words tomorrow, I plan to systematically do what I can to make sure my mobility is not at the mercy of something easily fixable. Anything else, and it'll be a completely different story. The Infiniti is getting a little old (it's a '94) and guzzles too much expensive gas for me to seriously consider a major overhaul of any kind.

Between words and cars, I did some cooking. Made some sausage-and-lentil soup using a pretty straightforward recipe, substituting a can and a half of Campbell's French Onion soup concentrate for beef stock. The soup was okay, but I might want to keep the substitution down to just one can next time, as today's result was too salty for my taste.

I also made some green salsa using what has now become my streamlined recipe: lots of tomatillos, chopped cilantro, chopped garlic, and some hot sauce in place of jalapeƱos. My taste buds can hardly tell the difference.

With all that, it's time to hit the rack and think briefly about tomorrow before drifting off. Technically, I have about 75,000 words on the plate right now, and it's starting to look a little... full.

Cheers...
