I'm dogsitting with the kids' dogs, so the population of mammals at the old homestead currently sits at 2 felines, 4 canines, and one human.

Somehow, I managed to keep an eye on the dogs (to make sure they didn't wander off and to make sure they play well together) and finish off a 12,000-word slug of a long-term project I'm working on. I actually used the "Pomodoro technique" (25 minutes of work, 5 minutes of break) for about four "pomodoros," and actually felt less stress trying to keep everything in the air.

Of course, saying that I "used the Pomodoro technique" in this manner is a little like someone eating a bacon-wrapped filet mignon and saying they were "eating a low-carb diet." What I truly understand about Pomodoro can probably be wadded up real tight and then jammed under one of your fingernails, and I doubt you'd feel a thing.

Still, taking regular breaks made it easier to keep track of the dogs (once I had derived some initial assurance that the newcomers would not bolt, willy-nilly, into the brush upon being let out of the car), and maybe it was just the nature of text that one finds near the end of a section (generally flowery in tone, repetitive in summary, and in some cases almost predictable in content), but the last two Pomodoros went very smoothly, as far as work was concerned.

In a highly unusual move, work came in from Russia on a Saturday. The only thing I can imagine that might lead to such an event is a grim determination to make a June 30 deadline. I'll probably look at it tomorrow, but I expect most of the day will be spent with the dogs.

Cheers...
