Feeling pretty good...
Jul. 25th, 2012 08:29 pmThe next big slug of a multipart job went out a couple of hours ago, and it has lifted quite a load from my mind. The plate is still fairly heavy with work, but at least now I get the feeling I can take a few deep breaths and not feel guilty about not doing so in front of my computer.
An colleague from when I used to work in Houston gave me a heads-up about a mycological "foray" event to be held here in Pagosa near the end of August. I am excited. I've given some thought, from time to time, of attending the annual mushroom festival in Telluride, but was never sure I could afford either the time or the registration fee. Speaking of mushrooms, the rains have sort of lightened up over the past few days, although you can still hear thunder from passing cells. There's still time, though.
A herd of about five-score elk (as far as I can tell) passed within 20 meters of the house early this morning, heading southeast. Among other things, the event was an education in elk calls, ranging from short shrieks to extended soliloquies. I tried to video the procession on my iPhone, but the relative positions of me, the herd, and the sun made that well-nigh a fruitless endeavor.
Cheers...
