D&B Government iUpdate...
Jul. 24th, 2012 04:07 pmFew things are likely to "make my day" more than having a client send me an email asking that I apply for a D&B/DUNS number, and to do so now (because, heaven knows, they need to provide my number to some bureaucrat by noon tomorrow), and to do so when I'm on deadline to deliver 9,000 words in two days to the same client...
...except maybe having the D&B web-based registration system go all sorts of crazy, tell me my attempt to register failed, and invite me to start over from scratch... and then not work at all when I do.
Aaargh!
UPDATE: When I called the toll-free number and was told I had been connected to D&B's commercial division instead of the government division, I managed to ask for (and get) the phone number of the government division before getting transferred, which turned out to be a good idea, because... the government division is based on the East Coast and is closed for the day!
UPDATE: I tried the web site again, and mirabile dictu!... it worked. I suspect that with my newly mined DUNS number and sawbuck, I could probably buy an espresso at just about any old Starbucks!
