Poster boy for "out of shape"...
Oct. 11th, 2012 09:31 pmOh, my aching thighs!
Several years ago, I took a half dozen weekly classes in qigong, but the overall span of sessions was not long enough for any of the knowledge to take root, and I was not motivated enough to pursue the practice on my own, allowing myself the luxury of falling back on a self-image, which I maintained from roughly from 5th grade to the time I entered the Marines, of being physically awkward and uncoordinated. Without dwelling on the subject, I'll simply note that if nothing else, boot camp cured me of that misconception.
Still, over the years, whether it was ballroom dancing or qigong, I've felt more than a hint of doubt when it comes to moving my body through three-dimensional space.
Well, tonight I accompanied Hitomi to her Tai Chi school and had my first lesson.
Among other things, I learned that even the relatively calm "warm-up" exercises were enough to get me breathing hard.
This is going to require some care and consultation, methinks, but overall, I enjoyed the class very much.
Cheers...
