I started actually putting words to phosphor for my presentation around three hours ago. As of now, the slide show for my presentation currently contains 22 slides, and conceptually covers enough material for a 3-hour talk. The basic theme concerns the importance of being more than "just" a translator in a world that demands more than translation from translation professionals. As with any good controversial topic, this is going to move a number of eyebrows in various directions once I present my arguments at the conference in L.A. on Friday.

The good news is: I'm still not finished with the presentation.

The bad news is: I'm still not finished with the presentation.

However, I'm well advanced enough with this project to see the end of the tunnel, to see that it is well lit, and to know that the light is not provided by the headlamp of an oncoming locomotive.

As for the rest of the day, I spent most of it at the store and don't remember a single salient thing about it, which is another one of those good news/bad news deals.

Lee called earlier to tell us specifics of when she is coming to visit, and Drew took the time to thank me for being a great dad (or words to that effect). I figured I'd just mention those two tidbits as they are - no malice intended, okay? - rather unusual phenomena taken individually, not to mention on the same day. No matter, I'll take what I can get any way I can get it. :^)

One other event of note: Sasha, in a canine tribute to the timepiece gods, has thoroughly masticated my one-and-only best alarm clock. This is a first for me. I now need to go find my second-best backup, but not immediately-right-now, as I am really tired.

Cheers...

I think it is becoming more and more important to be more than just a translator. I'm not in the translation game so much anymore, but I still do some interpreting, and being in a country with 4 languages, 3 of which I speak, I have the benefit of being able to read quotes from people in the original, and then see the translation in a different paper, and the difference sometimes is astonishing.
